The land that Sudbury currently occupies was first settled as part of Sudbury Plantation in 1639. It was later incorporated in 1780 as East Sudbury on land that had once been part of the neighboring community of Sudbury. It was later renamed as Wayland in 1835 in honor of Dr. Francis Wayland, former president of Brown University. Dr. Wayland was a benefactor of the town’s historic library, the first free public library in all of Massachusetts.

One of the most exclusive neighborhoods in all of Massachusetts, Wayland is a peaceful town in Middlesex County that offers residents many sightseeing stops, dining options, shopping destinations and entertainment venues all within a short distance from one’s front door. The education system with six schools in Wayland is always recognized as being near the top if not ‘the’ top town to educate a student in the entire state on an annual basis.

Notable residents of Wayland include Steven Tyler and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith as well as Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies

The preservation efforts of their forests, marshes and fields along the Sudbury River paint the perfect image for this picturesque semi-rural setting. Wayland’s surrounding communities include Lincoln, Sudbury and Weston. As one of the wealthier areas of the Bay State, the median household income in Wayland is at $121,036 and the median income for a family is $147,434. There are many luxury real estate options available.
